Feed Your Broken Heart Breakfast.

When my heart got broken, the last thing on my mind was taking care of myself. Everything else seemed more important; or rather, nothing seemed important at all. I’d sleep through half the day because at night I would lie awake and ruminate; or cry. And I’d eat whatever was easily and readily available. Cooking seemed so pointless. I had no energy to spend on anything.

But I promise you that a little time in the kitchen in the evening is so good for a broken heart. I’ve always found cooking to be a relaxing, almost meditative. And so I’d stand in the kitchen in my cosiest loungewear and fuzzy socks, lights low, stirring ingredients in a glass jar, knowing that even if I had nothing else to look forward to in the morning, at least I would have a bourgeois breakfast straight out of the fridge.

One of my favourite breakfast treats is Overnight Oats; no cooking involved. All you have to do is mix the ingredients, and go to bed. And not only are the toppings infinitely versatile, overnight oats, especially when mixed with chia seeds, come with a whole host of health benefits.

Everything a broken heart needs.

So if you, too, feel your mornings are too dull to make it out of bed, plan yourself a pretty little breakfast. Try my favourite recipe for Cherry-Vanilla Overnight Oats, make a cup of coffee, and find yourself a comfy spot to settle down. I promise you, life will look a little bit brighter instantly.
