Scrub your tears away, darling.
Nothing proclaims a self-care-day like a day in a spa. Spas come in all shapes and sizes, and with all kinds of price tags attached. My favourite for an impromptu moment of self-care is The Lush Spa on Oxford Street in London.

Appointments for this particular spa are hard to come by, it’s booked six weeks in advance on average, more on the weekends. But somehow I managed to make this my fourth visit, the first one since the end of my relationship; and strangely also the first one since the beginning of that same relationship.
How did I forget to take care of myself for that long?
Either way, a visit to Lush Spa is worth the wait, and the price tag. I have previously treated myself to Book A Bath, Tangled Hair, and The Spell. This time I am in for a Fresh Facial.
And let me tell you, this treatment is absolute heaven. From the moment you step into the Lush Kitchen, you are in a different world; you are definitely not on Oxford Street anymore. The smells, the soundtrack, the gentle lighting, and the personal attention take you away in an instant.
The Fresh Facial is a bespoke 5-step skin care routine, plus a hand and forearm massage. You are in for a thorough cleanse, a scrub, serum, face mask, and moisturising. All the products are obviously from the Lush ranges, and a chat with the therapist before the treatment determines which ones you receive according to your skin’s needs and concerns.
Snuggled under a hot towel I felt like my lovely therapist scrubbed all the barely dried tears I have shed in the past few months right off my skin, and memory. After half an hour in her care I felt like a new person, with a new sense of calm, and focus. I felt a little more solid than I have in the past weeks, a little more myself again.
After the treatment I spent a few more minutes sitting in the Lush Kitchen with a glass of lime water, soaking in the quiet. My lovely therapist presented me with a bar of the solid serum she had used, and I ended up also buying a pot of the face scrub, as it had felt so heavenly.
Honestly, I don’t know how I allowed this piece of me to fall by the wayside, and I can’t wait to reintegrate it into my self-care routine. I may have actually already booked my next session (pssshh…)
Whether you are going through a messy, painful breakup yourself, or just want a little impromptu self-care treat, I can only recommend The Lush Spa on Oxford Street.
